XI. Exile and Visions of Homeland

Filipinos are a diasporic people. Many have left their homes in the hopes of improving life for their families, driven by political instability or economic opportunities. According to a SWS survey, currently 1 in 5 individuals wish to live outside of the Philippines. With so many Filipinos living abroad, there arises the question of finding “home”. This section focuses on themes of physical and metaphorical exile, representations of Filipinos abroad, community connection, nostalgia for the past, and otherness.
